About Katie
Katie Cook is a KC-130J pilot with over 1,400 flight hours, including 400 in combat. She earned her commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2008 and holds an M.A. in International Security from Georgetown. She deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and later with SPMAGTF-CR, supporting multiple contingency operations including the 2014 evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in South Sudan. In 2014, she became the first female pilot with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, flying “Fat Albert.”
She later commanded Airfield Operations Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 at MCALF Bogue. After transitioning to the Reserves in 2019, she served with Recruiting Station Houston and then as a Joint Operational Planner with the JECC, deploying in support of the 2023 Niger embassy evacuation. She went on to serve with the Marine Innovation Unit, supporting efforts to integrate cutting-edge technologies and concepts to enhance Marine Corps capabilities, before returning to Recruiting Station Houston where she is currently attached.
